Recruitment scams are becoming increasingly common across the executive search and recruiting industry. Fraudsters may impersonate legitimate recruiting firms, including JM Search, by creating fake email addresses, social media profiles, or text and voice messages that appear to come from our recruiters.
Our goal is to help you recognize these scams and know how to verify legitimate communications from JM Search.
How JM Search Communicates
Our recruiters conduct all candidate interactions in a professional and transparent manner.
JM Search recruiters will:
- Contact candidates using an official @jmsearch.com email address.
- Identify themselves and the organization they represent.
- Communicate through established business channels, including email, phone, LinkedIn, and video conferencing.
- Be happy to verify their identity if you have any concerns.
JM Search recruiters will never:
- Ask you to pay fees for job opportunities, resume writing, coaching, training, or placement services.
- Request payment, banking information, or direct deposit details as part of the recruiting process.
- Ask you to purchase equipment, gift cards, software, or other products related to a job opportunity.
- Charge fees to upload resumes or other documents to any type of platform.
- Ask for sensitive personal information, such as a Social Security number, passport, government ID, or tax forms, through unofficial or unverified channels.
- Pressure you to act immediately or discourage you from verifying their identity.
How to Spot a Recruitment Scam
Be cautious if you receive a message that:
- Comes from a personal email account (such as Gmail or Yahoo) while claiming to represent JM Search or another company.
- Requests payment or purchase of services in exchange for employment opportunities.
- Includes frequent typos, poor grammar, and unexpected links or attachments that encourage you to click immediately.
- Creates a sense of urgency or pressures you to act quickly.
How to Protect Yourself
If you receive a suspicious message:
- Do not respond or provide personal or financial information.
- Do not click on any links or open attachments from unknown senders.
- Verify the recruiter’s identity by contacting JM Search directly using the contact form on our website.
- Report fraudulent profiles or messages on the platform where you received them (such as LinkedIn, Gmail, or WhatsApp).
- Forward suspected impersonation attempts to fraud@jmsearch.com so our team can investigate.
We appreciate your vigilance. While fraudulent activity is unfortunately an industry-wide issue, JM Search is committed to maintaining a secure, professional recruiting process and helping candidates identify and avoid scams.
